I’m an Atlanta-based journalist who writes narrative and investigative stories for newspapers, magazines, and digital media outlets.

I work as an investigative reporter covering health care, public health and the environment for ProPublica's South unit. I was part of a team at ProPublica whose work was named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting.

For the first part of my career, I was a staff writer with several media outlets including STAT, CNN, Atlanta magazine, Creative Loafing Atlanta. A graduate of the University of Georgia’s narrative nonfiction M.F.A. program, I’ve worked as a freelance journalist, writing for publications local (Atlanta, Bitter Southerner) and national (The Atavist, The Atlantic, New York Times, Washington Post). I also co-founded Canopy Atlanta, a local news organization that pays and trains community members to become journalists.

My reporting has been featured on NPR, Vox, and Kaiser Health New, as well as recognized by Longform and Long Reads. My work also has been supported through grants and fellowships from organizations like the Association for Health Care Journalists, the Fund for Investigative Journalism, the Center for Civic Innovation, and the Solutions Journalism Network.
